C-SPAN HOSTS CAMPAIGN DEBATE, TWITTER/BLOG “TIME CAPSULE”
If you were watching C-SPAN at all during the conventions you probably remember the reports from Leslie Bradshaw, who was one of the senior editors of the "Convention Hub," which ran tons of blog posts and tweets and sorted wheat from chaff. It also let you pull video from C-SPAN archives to insert into blog posts. Now, Leslie tells me (full disclosure, she is my friend) that they are doing the same for each debate- four sites in all. They announced the plan on C-SPAN on Friday but I was unable to post about it until now.
Given the live-blogging madness that has overtaken all of us during big speeches, and the high interest the debates are certain to generate – this seems to me a good thing. So I’m passing the word to you. Here are the main points (Oh and that’s Leslie next to Susan Swain on C-Span during the conventions):
1. The four sites will launch later this week.
2. Each website will be a "time capsule" complete with blog posts, tweets, transcripts and video from each debate.
3. They will also tracking twitter posts with: #debate08, Palin, McCain, Biden and Obama
4. C-SPAN is also very active, and very popular, on Twitter.
I got majorly addicted to these hubs during the conventions and you’ll love them. You can also submit your own posts, and they will read them and often include them in the crawl. So, later this week, check it out for yourself.

FIFTY-SOMETHING MOMS AND I’M ONE OF THEM!
This is really exciting. Silicon Valley Moms has launched a Fifty-Something Moms blog and I’m honored to be one of them. Although it’s been around for a while, the site’s OFFICIAL launch is today. I’ve only posted twice so far, once on being a "fake grandparent" and once on childbirth for us in the First World versus for women in developing nations but hope to post at least once every two weeks. There are plenty of lovely posts already so have a look. I’ll be mentioning posts from this sister blog as we move forward. It really is an exciting project – as are the other blogs that share the franchise – Silicon Valley Moms Blog, Chicago Moms Blog, DC Metro Moms Blog, New York City Moms Blog and New Jersey Moms Blog, with a Deep South Moms Blog launching soon. NABLOPOMO GRADUATION DAY MINUS ONE
So here’s what I know so far:
- Everyone loves COSTCO. Yesterday’s post garnered a ton of traffic; I was frankly amazed. Of all the things I’ve written about, from Vietnam to Jewish funerals to East Berlin to my kids to Bruce Springsteen, this is the one that hit something. Not sure what but it’s kind of interesting, no?
- Writing every day is definitely good for you. Hard, but good.
- As I’ve continued to write, I’ve discovered both a capacity to be honest and a certainty that there are things I will never write about. Those things belong to others, people I love to whom they happened. They belong to them.
- When you’re writing but you’re beyond tired, you should wrap up your document and go to bed. Which is what I’m going to do now. Tomorrow we’ll celebrate graduation day together. G’nite
BLOGHERO7 SCAVENGER HUNT
I couldn’t take any pix on Friday night or Saturday because of the Sabbath so I don’t have very many photos and most of what I have aren’t worthy but here are three anyway.
Babyfruit’s Aliza Sherman in braids! I’ve known this woman a long time – with big gaps in time we’re happy to have closed. I knew her during Cybergrrl and served with her on the AAUW Commission on Technology, Gender, and Teacher Education. She’s a Web pioneer, a wonderful person and a great writer.
The BlogHer Big Three — and don’t we love them!
