Numbered among them were the\u00a0pioneering\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/IVillage\" target=\"_blank\">iVillage <\/a>and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogher.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">BlogHer <\/a>and agencies like\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.clevergirlscollective.com\/stefaniapomponi\/\" target=\"_blank\">Clever Girls<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/beblogalicious.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Blogalicious<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.clevergirlscollective.com\/stefaniapomponi\/\" target=\"_blank\">Women and Work<\/a>, \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/swaygroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sway Group<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.themotherhood.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Motherhood<\/a>. \u00a0There are plenty more.<\/p>\n<p>When I saw this story today about the emerging\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/the-internet-of-women\/about\" target=\"_blank\">Internet of Women<\/a>, led by Cisco&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/ch.linkedin.com\/in\/moniquejeannemorrow\" target=\"_blank\">Monique J. Morrow<\/a>, I&#8217;ll admit I got a little sad. I had tried to write a handbook (Internet Bootcamp) for women online in 1996. \u00a0 A friend hooked me up with a celebrity agent I could have never enlisted on my own, and my proposal went to some serious publishers. \u00a0The response &#8211; and I wish I still had the precise language, was that the writing was &#8220;engaging&#8221; but women would never buy such a book. \u00a0I just pulled it to take a look and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Internet-Bootcamp-1996-557136371106187\/\" target=\"_blank\">am posting it here<\/a>. \u00a0See what you think. \u00a0 If nothing else\u00a0it will evoke memories of modems past.<\/p>\n<p>Here is Morrow&#8217;s basic message: (We agree, right?)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>From connected homes and cars to monitoring our health through smart devices, a woman\u2019s view point in this new age of digitization has never been more critical.<\/p>\n<p>I invite you to follow our publication, the <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/the-internet-of-women\/about\" target=\"_blank\">Internet of Women<\/a> and be part of this movement.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Women were always going to thrive on the Internet. \u00a0Connecting, enabling connections among others, sharing information and more importantly, support and wisdom &#8212; these are some of the reasons we belonged online from the beginning. \u00a0I knew it as soon as I saw my first browser, Mosaic (later Netscape)\u00a0in the early 90s.
