This very sexy song from the film, written and performed by <a href=\"www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0001018\/bi\" target=\"_blank\">Keith Carradine<\/a> (<em>currently playing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;ved=0CCsQFjAA&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbs.com%2Fshows%2Fmadam-secretary%2F&amp;ei=z5oZVd6XC8-wsATOtIH4CA&amp;usg=AFQjCNE0FZD8wQnElfw83yzo-F6D8TusCw&amp;bvm=bv.89381419,d.cWc\" target=\"_blank\">Madame Secretary<\/a>&#8216;s (CBS) boss, the President of the United States<\/em>) won the best original song Oscar in 1976.*<\/p>\n<p>He is singing to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0005499\/?ref_=nv_sr_1\" target=\"_blank\">Lily Tomlin<\/a>, who plays a white gospel singer with two deaf children; despite her marriage, she is as isolated as the metaphor suggests. \u00a0Their attraction is clear and heady: as he addresses his performance to her it&#8217;s\u00a0clear\u00a0they will\u00a0find a time\u00a0 &#8211; just once &#8211;\u00a0to be together. \u00a0It&#8217;s a lovely moment in a harsh story.<\/p>\n<p>The film is political, angry and brilliant. \u00a0It would be remarkably relevant today; you could\u00a0say the demagoguery and tea-party-like characters were\u00a0&#8220;ripped from the headlines&#8221; if the film weren&#8217;t\u00a040 years old. \u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B008DF1CKQ?ref_=imdbref_tt_wbr_aiv&amp;tag=imdbtag_tt_wbr_aiv-20\" target=\"_blank\">See for yourself<\/a>; in addition to a wonderful film, you&#8217;ll get to see Carradine and Tomlin knock your socks off.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>*This\u00a0iconic 1979 winner from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/45CX8W9peTs\" target=\"_blank\">Norma Rae <\/a>,\u00a0&#8220;It Goes Like It Goes&#8221;, never really got the attention it deserved either &#8211; and in some ways they&#8217;re so similar.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JDFEyI8eprQ?list=PLNAOzxyrC6cpvDM98LMv5YDPqO-QEcwkc\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Robert Altman&#8216;s Nashville\u00a0is a perfect movie.
