above the main section? \u00a0So that pilgrims could sleep there and not have to pay for the privilege of coming from very far away to pray for forgiveness or a miracle.<\/p>\n<p>The power of this place is exceptional. \u00a0Statues that pioneer portrayal of textile surfaces for clothing, and statues with facial expressions. \u00a0Golden altars, a bloody Christ, \u00a0St. James&#8217; beautiful silver coffin &#8211; combine to contribute to the soulful mystery that hovers over it all.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cynthiasamuels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/solomonic-columns-fixed.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2150\" alt=\"solomonic columns fixed\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cynthiasamuels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/solomonic-columns-fixed.jpg?resize=210%2C193&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"210\" height=\"193\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cynthiasamuels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/solomonic-columns-fixed.jpg?resize=300%2C275&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cynthiasamuels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/solomonic-columns-fixed.jpg?w=437&amp;ssl=1 437w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 210px) 100vw, 210px\" \/><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem; line-height: 1.714285714;\">These columns, for example, \u00a0are ornate and golden because they were meant to resemble those in Solomon&#8217;s Temple in Jerusalem. \u00a0 A saint sits atop two open-mouthed lions \u00a0who represent the (sadly premature) celebration of human victory over sin. \u00a0Moses joins the Apostles on the &#8220;Portico de la Gloria&#8221;
