MARGIN: 0px 5px 5px 0px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: black; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial\"><span face=\"Arial\">Yesterday I went to a briefing on political blogging held by the Institute <a href=\"http:\/\/http\/\/www.ipdi.org\/\">for Politics, Democracy and the Internet<\/a> and mega-PR agency <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edelman.com\/about_us\/welcome\/\">Edelman Associates<\/a>.&nbsp; It was pretty interesting.&nbsp; Among the findings: (Read to the bottom \u2013 you\u2019ll be glad you did) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span face=\"Arial\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span face=\"Arial\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: black; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial\">27% of the US population reads a blog in any given week (@60,193,913 folks &#8211; larger than the adult pops of CA, NY, TX combined)<\/span><\/span><span face=\"Arial\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: black; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial\">34%+ American influentials (people who influence others &#8211; logical, right?) read a blog at least once\/week<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in\"><span face=\"Arial\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: black; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial\">28% of American adults that have read a blog have taken action on based on in- formation they received on that blog.&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: black; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial\"><span face=\"Arial\">The US age breakdown is kind of interesting too. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in\"><span face=\"Arial\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: black; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial\">18-24s are largest blog users, as you&#8217;d imagine.&nbsp; They report reading a blog an average of 1.6 days\/week.&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l2 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list .5in\"><span face=\"Arial\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: black; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial\">The next highest isn&#8217;t 25-34 (many of whom fell into a kind of &quot;gap&quot; in school computing access and average 0.8 pages\/week) but 35-44s who average around 1.05 days\/week.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l2 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list .5in\"><span face=\"Arial\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: black; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial\">Then there&#8217;s another surprise &#8211; the next age cadre, 45-54 is lowest so far at around 0.7 days\/week <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l2 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list .5in\"><span face=\"Arial\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: black; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial\">Those early Boomers 55-64 are higher, matching the 25-34s at 0.8.&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l2 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list .5in\"><span face=\"Arial\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: black; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial\">65+ averages only around 0.5.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l2 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list .5in\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: black; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial\"><span face=\"Arial\">And gender \u2013 are we traveling the blogosphere less intensely than the guys?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Well the only stats the report had were for political blogs and their researcher says the numbers were pretty much in the margin of error:<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"square\" style=\"MARGIN-TOP: 0in\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo3; tab-stops: list .5in\"><span face=\"Arial\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: black; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial\">Blog readers who read political blogs:<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\">24% female &#8211; 30% male<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo3; tab-stops: list .5in\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\"><span face=\"Arial\">Take action from political blog info: 26% female &#8211; 30% male]]<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo3; tab-stops: list .5in\"><span face=\"Arial\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: black; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial\">A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipdi.org\/UploadedFiles\/The%20Audience%20for%20Political%20Blogs.pdf\">second study<\/a>, released in October 2006 by IPDI and @dvocacy Inc. showed: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"square\" style=\"MARGIN-TOP: 0in\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo3; tab-stops: list .5in\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\"><span face=\"Arial\">Daily political blog readers were 75% male and 25% female<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo3; tab-stops: list .5in\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt\"><span face=\"Arial\">Daily \u201call others\u201d blog readers were 60% male and 40% female<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial\"><span face=\"Arial\">OK NOW here\u2019s why you read to the bottom:<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>women don\u2019t do their politics exclusively on \u201cpolitical\u201d blogs \u2013 not at all!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; As usual, we don&#8217;t fit into anyone&#8217;s categories &#8211; combining family, food, politics and love into the total life we all live.&nbsp; Good for us &#8212; we just have to make sure the pundits know this too &#8211;
